For the record having a car ROCKS!!!! - have mums car for a month while she is over in the US visiting Shan and Dave and it is so great been able to cruise off and do whatever I want, whenever I want - I can't believe I avoided getting my license for this long - of course been a dirt poor ex-student probably contributed to that but hey - time to save and get one of my own - the world will probably run out of oil before I get a car but hey I can dream.
And on another note am totally geeking out - I got Dawn of War running on my machine - w00t!!!!!! Space Marines, Dreadnaughts, Warp Spiders, Bloodthirster, mega geeky w00tage - I is in Warhammer 40K heaven.
And to top it of me and Steve finally watched the last few episodes of Deadwood season 1 - my god that show is the schiznit - a massive cast of intriguing characters and no holds bared veiwing - if there is one show people must see this is it - just don't watch it if you have issues with swearing - it got me and I worked in a shearing gang for 3 seasons.

Me so happy - Going Postal has finally gone paperback, and he just released Thud! - though have to say Postal hasn't managed to topple The Truth, Monsterous Regiment and the Night Watch series from my top Pratchett book - it was very good but it lacked that certain something. Then to top it all off I was having a skim through the cheapy bin at Whitcoulls and what do I find but one of the few Battletech books that I don't own for 5 bucks - score!!! - between that and the ones my sister has ordered for me off Amazon I must nearly have the whole series.
Plus I have a total Whedon-thon going on - after watching the whole series of Firefly last week, Steve managed to find a vid store that had season 5 of Angel so bring on the greatness - all the great witty dialogue and Spike - its all good - though I have to say the 4th episode scared the crap outta me - person chopping of own fingers + empty eyesockets = Rikki freeking out - curse my over-active imagination.
Managed to get thursday afternoon off to say goodbye to Mum before she heads off to the States to see Shan - then realised I can probably take her up to the airport since I am having her car while she is away - driving back from Auckland by myself is a very scary prospect though. Glad she is going over though - it will do her good to get away from everything and go see her little girl - she needs a break.

Cast list rumours for the voices in Elder Scrolls: Oblivion (follow up to Morrowind for those not in the know) - Lynda Carter (the original Wonder Woman) - fair enough, Terence Stamp (cool), Patrick Stewart - hell yeah!!! and....Sean Bean - double hell yeah!! - a couple of the coolest voices around - saweet.
Lost is back and as mind-fucky as ever - just watched the first episode - there were a couple of WTF moments, then watched the second episode with its mammoth WTF!!!!!! moment - watch the shark thats all I say.
Finally scored Firefly off a guy at work and watched it - that show is damn awesome (mind you when are Whedon shows not) - the last couple of episodes where River gets a little more involved were damn cool and War Stories has to be my favourite episode - the space station assault is cool - am so hanging out for the Serenity to be released so that the story can be cleared up a little. Have to say Fox are fracking morons!! they cancel all my favourite shows - Dark Angel, Angel and now this - what the frack is wrong with them.
And the people making BSG are also complete and utter bastards - just the latest episode - which was very very very cool and ended with a mean cliff-hanger - and then Steve tells me that the next one ain't out until January - seriously - WTF!!!! a couple of weeks wait okay but 3 months - thats just cruel.

Well its been bloody ages since I posted so I think its time to divulge all the crap I've been up to. Been a few things happen over the last couple of weeks - finally finished Resident Evil 4 (phworr!! - god that game is so mind-frackingly awesome) and started to play through again - its fun playing through with the beefed up weapons from the start - try and decapitate me now chainsaw dude - meet Mr Striker mwahahahaha
Discovered the joys of Clone High - only seen half the season but that is some straight up laugh out loud funny stuff - can't believe they only made one series. "Wesleyyy" - classic (if ya don't know what I'm talking about get out there and watch it now fools)
We had Tillys 80s/White Trash party on the Saturday before I moved into their flat - was pretty quiet but fun - wore jeans for the first time EVER (I'm of the old school shorts and t-shirt Peter Jackson school of fashion) - they were oddly comfortable but kept slipping down cause they were a bit loose round the waist (another unusual situation for me) as that was the only size I could fit my thighs into :). Some of us stayed up til all hours (I copped out about 3ish and caught a taxi home - realised I had to move the next day).
And I did move the next day - Steve gave me a hand and we managed to move all my stuff down in one trailer load - pretty amazing given how much crap I have - I now cannot move in my room for boxes cause the new room is half the size of my old one - was a bit spoiled there. Nearly killed Steves car though - it really didn't like having to back a heavy ass furniture mover up my old flats drive. Am now in the process of trying to unpack - I think it will probably take another 3 or 4 weeks - I so suck at unpacking - plus I need a new book shelf cause most of the boxes are books - I have filled one book shelf but still need a home for my thrillers, non-fiction and recipe books - roll on payday so I can buy one. Must say going back to student flatting was a major culture shock after been practically a bachelor for the last couple of years - but the flatmates are awesome (most of them) and I get fuzz therapy on tap (Tilly I am so catnapping Iggy - he shall be mine).
Spent this weekend shifting a bunch of Mums stuff up to her new place - was pretty soul wrenching going home and it just doen't feel like home anymore - I never really lived there cause we only moved into the place six months before I went to Uni but it was always the place I went for Xmas and holidays and so I guess it was home in my heart. We had to move all my sisters stuff that was in her room out and thats been sent over to Auntie Nickys in Katikati and I didn't really have much stuff but its all Mum accumulated stuff from the last 30 years - it really kills her having to do this and she fluxuates between just been all lost and getting really angry. The real kicker for me was getting everything back up to Pirongia and sorting through some old boxes from up in the attic - found a bunch of old postcards from Dad that he sent over to me from Australia when I was a little kid - it was heart renching seeing the difference in the person he was then - all loving and fatherly, and the person he is now - not a pleasent experience.
On a lighter note I found some old school photos of me and dear God!! I had a mullet - oh the shame - it was a real shocker I can tell you - thank God I outgrew that travesty.

w00t!!! Day off work = happy Rikki - though that is kinda mitigated by the fact that its 6am and I am wide awake - stupid fracking body clock!! We came fourth at quiz night (I think) - can't really remember on account of the $200 bar tab from the previous week - but mental note - walking back to Coates St at 11 at night wearing only a short sleeved polo shirt is not a good idea - think I managed to give me a chill (dumbass).
On a seperate note I have to ask "What the hell is wrong with Japanese people" - they have to be some of the dodgiest people on the planet. Starting playing through Resident Evil 4 again (God that game is great) and decided to use the characters alternate outfits - Leon gets his Raccoon City police outfit - which is kinda cool - and Ashley gets...yes...well - I guess you would call it the cleavagy jailbait slutbomb outfit - its kinda dodgy given shes like barely 18 (I hope) Between this and the quasi-schoolgirl outfit she has originally its proof that Japanese people are a bunch of perverts. (And Capcom know their audience - you can apparently attempt to look up Ashleys skirt and she freeks and calls Leon a pervert - Capcom just knew their customers were gonna try that)
Right the sun is up so its time to get started on packing again - boxes? Check!! Heaps o crap to pack? Big Fat Check!!! Motivation to pack? Um...now I know I had it somewhere here..*scrabbles around searching*....Ohhhhh Resident Evil 4!! Now I must play thee. Note to self - find motivation to pack at later date.

I have never felt the urge to inflict grevious bodily harm on another person before but GOD I want to hurt my father so bad. If he was here I would deck him. After the shit he pulled at the start of this year he came back from the States and kinda worked his way back into Mums life (she still loves him). Well, apparently this last week he has been txting her that he loves her, he misses her, he wants to make it work etc, and Mum is happy - she thinks that yes he has changed and that this is it, hes realised what a mistake he has made.
Anyway on Sunday morning the phone goes at my flat but I missed it (not been dressed and all) and I think "they'll call back". Then my cell goes - I'm thinking "Uh-oh" cause no one rings my cell unless it is real bad. It was Mum in tears. Apparently Dad was meant to come up and see her, but didn't, and then she finds out that he is down at the pub "sucking face" with the gutter slime bitch that he decided is better than Mum. She went down and confronted him and he told that he didn't love her and it was all a lie - she was destroyed. She packed up a bunch of stuff and her friend Dawn helped move up to Dawns house in Pirongia. Thats it, its over for good now. Steve went above and beyond and gave me a lift out there (poor bugger - he seems to be getting a lot of my personal shit this year), and she was distraught - thank god Nana and Poppa came over.
She is having to move everything out and up to Pirongia or over to Tauranga - and thats the worst of it - hes the fuck who is screwing up everyones lives, and shes the one who has give up all her friends in Piopio and move somewhere that she doesn't know anyone, and he gets the house - where is the justice in that!!. He doesn't even have any real friends (am learning that he is an emotional cripple - am now shit scared that I will end up that way) - the few he did have won't want anything to do with him when hes with this slag - shes a liar and a thief and pretty much scum of the earth - and thats from pretty much everyone in Piopio.
Suffice am not in a good head space right now and really, really, really want to inflict pain on my father, just so he can get an idea of how much he is hurting everyone else. And what with other things screwing up around me I am currently a very tense and angry individual. Guess I should try and channel all this rage into packing but whats the point - don't know when I will be moving anyway cause that keeps changing on me too.

w00t - I have stuff to keep me occupied - yay!! Just brought a copy of Zelda: The Wind Waker off Trademe - I have no real desire to play Wind Waker BUT it came with a bonus disc containing Zelda: Ocarina of Time - one of the BEST action RPGs ever - happy days for Rikki - I spent many hours playing that game on the N64 and its still as much fun as ever. :)
Plus I finally got a new book to read - Mark One got in some new Warhammer 40K novels and they had a new Gaunts Ghost book - yay again!! Problem is the way I read books it'll be finished in a couple of days and its back to square one - if only Hamilton had a Borders I would be a happy man. Mind you I still "A Short History of Mostly Everthing" sitting on the shelf that my sister brought me for Xmas - I got about a 5th of the way through and ran out of steam - I think I should pick that one up and finish it.
DOH!!! though - I lent my XBox to Steve - the poor lad was suffering withdrawel since his Box went to the great junkpile in the sky and he needed games. No music, no movies - big fat DOH!!! - what shall I do for my hit of Def Leppard. Still, a friend in need - he had the shakes already (though Kiri said he has installed Cricket on there much to her disgust - how dare he sully my poor little XBox with such an evil game) :) - but he did put on Outlaw Tennis as well so I may forgive him.
We had a great night at Quiz Night last night - Tillys friend Meghan is back from the US (she was one of the original Geek Force) and we so totally kicked arse (with not inconsiderable help from the quizmaster mind - why they help us win I do not know) - 1st place + the jackpot = $300 bartab - hellllooooo inebriation. Plus we scored 100 points - first teamever - go the Geek Force!!.
I decided that I am so taking next Thursday off cause I don't know if I will be any condition to go to work (not that I am most days - cursed human need to sleep!!) so I used up one of my annual leave days - its gonna be goood :).
And that weekend is gonna be a killer as well - Tillys party got postponed to that weekend so it will be hammered Wednesday night, recover Thursday, work all day Friday followed by work Quiz Night followed by more inebriation at Coates St, recover again on Saturday and then move to Coates St on Sunday - I figure I might need another day to recover after that so I booked the Monday off as well - mmmmmmm long weekend.

Well, that was an interesting weekend. Dyn moved out of the Coates St flat and they now have an empty room (what am I gonna do for my weekly dramas now ;) - I got a message from Kiri on Saturday on MSN saying she was sending me an email - "ooookay thats different" I thought to myself - she sent it through - "Reasons why rikki should move in" hehe - long story short I am now moving into the Coates St flat in 2 weeks - damn Kiri and her logical arguments. The money I would save will be great (about $40 a week) though I will miss this place and my massive room (and a kitchen you can move in) but the greatet thing is the fact that I will have cool flatmates that are fun to hang out with. Now I'm faced with the daunting task of packing and working out how I'm gonna fit all my stuff into the new room (its half the size of my current one). So looking forward to it - YAY!!! * breaks into the white boy happy dance *
And I spent all weekend playing Resident Evil 4 with Steve and Kiri - my god that game is awesome - and its so freeking huge. We played from 9pm on Saturday to 4am Sunday and then another 6 hours on Sunday afternoon and are barely halfway through - seriously that game is reason enough to buy a Gamecube.
Right must go sort though all my accumulated junk for things to throw out - curse my packrat mentality!! :)

OMFG Resident Evil 4 is so totally stupendously mindblowingly WICKED!!!!! Got a Collectors edition off Trademe and got it last night. Wow...thats all I can say....Wow. The graphics are gorgeous, and the tension is unbelievable. It still has the old clunky control system but that just adds to the tension. The game itself is played at a kind of over the shoulder 3rd person - no fixed camera angles here.
The real tension comes from the bad guys that trudge towards you from a distance as you try to line them up and then charge as they get in range - and when there is a mob of them theres that horrible moment when your gun clicks on an empty chamber just as you were about to knee cap the enemy at the front to slow the down, and you know that by the time you reload they will ALL be in range - RUN!!!.
This game is fan-fracking-tastic - now I just gotta get the stones to actually play it - an adrenaline junky I ain't :)

Am in a decidedly melancholic mood tonight - sitting in my room in an empty house feeling all lonely and empty - hate it when reality intrudes on the fluffly little world I usually exist in - and every song that cycles on my XBox is depressing.
Think the crap thats going down with my dad is finally starting to break through the emotional armour - I so want to hate him but hes still my Dad - Mum says he is drinking more and more and when he does he goes all Jekyll and Hyde on her - when hes not drinking she says hes the same old Dad but then once the booze starts he becomes the creep who pulled all the shit that shredded our family at the start of the year. She finally took him out of Piopio cause half the problem is the bloody drinking culture that is shearing - she took him up to her place with her to give him a chance to dry out - if he keeps it up hes gonna kill himself - or someone else if he drinks and drives. Not to mention the fact that everyone down home used to see him as a great, honest, straight up guy and now hes lost the respect of most everyone.
Poor old Mum - after all the crap shes been through since February she doesn't need this but I think she still loves him and doesn't want to see him implode on himself. I just want to give her a big hug and tell her everything will be fine but its not gonna be that easy. If she wanted to get back together with him (which I think she does) I would never begrudge her that but after the 3 months I spent shit scared she was gonna tip over its gonna be a long road to forgive him and I don't think I will ever have the relationship I had with him.
Geez I have depressing music in my collection!!! - I usually love these songs but they are all so damn sad. Def Lep's A Long Way To Go, Billie Myer's Kiss the Rain, Def Lep's Love Bites, Johnny Van Sant's Brickyard Road, The Who's Behind Blue Eyes - real happy stuff - I really need some bouncier music.
And God I can't wait til next year - if all goes to plan I will have flatmates that are fun to hang out with - the plan is to go flatting with Steve, Kiri, Tilly and possibly Tillys friend Julie - people who are interested in some of the same stuff I like and just plain fun to be around. Barrys a nice guy but I just don't have much in common with him and its not like I ever see him cause his room is downstairs -and since Vic went overseas (and she was pretty scary - Paris Hilton wannabe!!) there are two empty rooms upstairs and no flatmates to fill em - gets kinda lonely having no-one to talk to - need people to socialize with (for a given value of "socialize" - I'm a quiet, stay in the background kinda guy)
Ohh slightly happier now - just found a mammoth J Scott Campbell art site - http://jsc.theanomaly.co.uk/modules/news/ - can add lots of Campbell art to my collection - Danger Girl was one of my favourite comics ever - sexist as hell but great in an "Indiana Jones meets James Bond with breasts" kinda way - plus Secret Agent Zero had a great character design - very SWAT/SnakeEyes/Ninja. (for the record my top 4 comics are Danger Girl, Battle Chasers, Crimson and Area 52 - and 303 could potentially make it a top 5 but I need some more issues for that one). That and the fact I turned the music off is probably helping.
Okay sorry to smack everyone in the face with this happy stuff but I needed to get some stuff off my chest - I promise not to be such a gloomy bugger next time.

Well when it comes to quiz night we rock!!! Another Quiz Night at Boston, yet another $100 bar tab for the Geek Force - yay us (shame I am on a diet). Yes that right I finally decided that in the name of my health (and in no small part by my bad self-image) I need to lose weight (plus I don't want to look like a beached whale come swimtime in summer). The original plan was join the gym for a few months and get some exercise but after looking at the gym fees ($250 for 3 months - ouch!!) I decided that the better option was to do a no carb diet for a month or so and THEN go to the gym - and no its not the Atkins diet - did that once and it worked great but I just don't buy into the whole "fat is your friend" bollocks - too much nutritional advice from my mum when she was bodybuilding I think. Must say its very hard to stick to a diet when you are a sugar addict like me though - I can feel those Pixie Caramel balls taunting me even now (and it doesn't help when Kiri gets a bloody nice pizza at Boston and offers me some - curse you Kiri :) for exposing my weakness)
Started having really weird dreams when I started the diet though - woke one morning and remember a dream involving suspiciously Resident Evil themes - zombies, mind numbing fear, claustrophbic tunnels, healing herbs and deep water (I really hate deep water - I can swim like a fish but my imagination goes nuts when I am in deep water and I get the wiggins big time thinking something is gonna rise up and drag me under)FYI the deep water ain't a Res Evil thing but I can remember it vivid as heck.
Was sitting at my desk at work on a call when I got an email from Duncan, our chief Helpdesk guy. He had heard I was a bit of a quiz junkie and wanted to know if I wanted to join their team for the work quiz - sweet count me in....I suck but count me in anyway.
Find myself out of books and video games again though - I am feeling decidedly bored. Mark One is getting me in a bunch of books but it gonna be a waiting game for them - Gah!!! - of course I could stop been a womble and join the library but that would be too smart (kinda ironic given I plan on been a librarian at some point in the future). On the plus side though Chris at Mark One did say he might be able to source the new Mechwarrior Dark Age novels from the US - if so there will be much rejoicing from the Rikster - of course I then have to find space for them on my book shelves - I realised I have 190+ books in my room - hehe I guess the people at work calling me "bookworm" is kinda appropriate.
And lastly Mr Potter - yes I caved and brought a copy on Monday (I really wanted to get it read by Quiz Night cause Steve, Kiri and Tilly had all read it and I so didn't want it spoiled for me if they let something slip). All I can say is DAMN I so didn't see the turn of Snape coming - I knew about the death that occured cause I had heard something about a while back and it was stuck in the back of my head but Snape - nuh-uh totally blindsided me. Though as Tilly and Kiri pointed out he may just be doing what was necessary to maintain his cover above all else - I can totally see that. The next one will be kinda interesting though - no more Hogwarts for Harry and Co - it just won't be the same without the school. I really have to get the complete series sometime - they are just so fabulously written :)

We Came, We Saw, We Conquered....Again

Well that makes it 3 weeks in a row we won quiz night. Yet another $100 bar tab for us to spend next week - and we seriously kicked butt - the only thing I'm worried about is the old "killing the goose that laid the golden eggs". Sure we can keep on winning but if no one else wins then people will stop coming and no more quiz night - think we might need to come second for a couple of weeks :).
I have scored myself a copy of the new Harry Potter book to read when it comes out - w00t!!! One of the women in my team at work said she and her daughter were talking about how long it will take them to read it and then she thought "hey Rikki can finish it in a couple of days" and she decided that I can read it first cause they will take a while - thanks Trish!! And from what I hear its gonna be made trying to get a hold of it when it comes out. I'm actually amazed at the amount of Harry Potter fans at work.
Just watched the new series of Dr Who that started tonight in NZ. It was kinda cheezy but oddly compelling - I think I just have a thing for UK tv series - they have that something that most US series lack (espically the whole "reality" aspect hehe), plus I totally get the UK humour. Christopher Eccleston is so delightfully maniac as The Doctor, and I have to say I've always though Billie Piper is very cute. Still can't top Red Dwarf as my all time fav brit series though.
Hmmm just struck by a thought - I wonder if it is possible to find the series The Tribe anywhere - I really liked that series - it was designed for teens but it was made here in NZ and apparently made it huge in Europe - post-apocalyptic Lord of the Flies, no adults stuff - always wanted to know how it ended cause they just stopped showing it here in NZ, right after a major cliffhanger - stupid network - and instead now we get infomerricals - bah!!
